Discover this beautiful old provencal town on a 5 night holiday including excursions exploring the beautiful countryside and villages of this part of southern Provence . Your holiday base is a comfortable hotel located in the heart of old Aix, with all the main sights of the town in easy strolling distance.
The old streets of Aix with their honey-coloured stone buildings warmed by the sun are full of life. There are cafes and restaurants on every corner, designer label shops, art galleries and quiet restful squares to relax over a glass of wine. The wide boulevard of the Cours Mirabeau lined by brasseries under massive plane trees epitomises the atmosphere of southern France .
Aix derives its name from Aquae Sextiae, a Roman settlement based around its hot springs which are still used for cures in the Thermes on the site of the Roman baths to the north-west of the old town. The town is set in a natural bowl on a plain dominated by the surrounding mountain ranges and the famous Mont St. Victoire the subject of so many of Cézanne's famous works.
Three escorted excursions are included during your stay to visit the picturesque fishing village of Cassis and the beautiful coastline of the Calanques, the charming town of St. Rémy and the nearby fortress village of Les Baux , and the beautiful Luberon countryside and villages. However there is a choice of other trips further afield which you can add to your holiday if you wish including Lavender excursions during the months of June and July.
New for 2012, we are delighted to be able to offer an optional additional excursion taking you out of Aix to the slopes of Mont St. Victoire to visit a wine domaine followed by tastings of provencal rosé wines accompanied by local cheeses and fruit. A delightful way to spend an afternoon. If you would like to include this excursion in your holiday, please just let us know at the time of booking.
