 Day by Day Itinerary  

The itinerary has been planned as a first day of Monday and final night of Friday. We can arrange an alternative day of week to start your holiday but in this case the excursions available may change according to your choice of holiday dates.

This holiday can be taken at any time between the months of April to October.

Day 1 Day 2 Day 3 Day 4

Arrive in Aix en Provence for your 5 nights stay in this lively university town in a hotel right in the heart of the old town. After your arrival take a self guided walking tour of the Vielle Ville for an introduction to the sights of the town.

This evening enjoy a stroll along the Cours Mirabeau with its pretty fountains and maybe dine at one of the lively brasseries for which Aix is famous.

A half day escorted minibus excursion this morning to the Mediterranean coast and the picturesque fishing village of Cassis . Here the pastel coloured houses cluster around the pretty harbourside from where boats depart for excursions to the Calanques - fjord like structures - for which this part of the coast is famous. Your excursion includes a boat trip.

The excursion departs at 9.00 a.m. and returns at 14.00 p.m.

Free afternoon in Aix.

Today a full day escorted tour visiting the charming old market town of St. Rémy de Provence. Its market day this morning and there are all the scents and colours of Provence on the stalls which wind their way through the town. From St. Rémy your tour continues on to the medieval fortress village of Les Baux perched high in the Alpilles mountains and with views right across to the Camargue and the distant Mediterranean . The excursion departs at 9.00 a.m. and returns at 19.00 p.m.

This morning a guided walking tour from the Tourist Office exploring Historic Aix starting at 10.00 and lasting approximately 2 hours.
Free afternoon in Aix. Maybe visit one of the interesting museums or art galleries or browse the designer shops. Don’t miss Cézannes Atelier, still full of the painter’s presence.

An optional excursion available this afternoon is the Rosé Wine excursion. A picturesque drive out of Aix to the slopes of Mont St. Victoire to visit a wine domaine followed by tastings of provencal rosé wines in a pretty countryside location.  This tour departs at 15.00 and returns at 18.00.
Day 5 Day 6    

A whole day escorted excursion today visiting the perched villages of the Parc Naturel du Luberon - a designated area of natural beauty north of Aix. Your day starts with the market in the pretty village of Lourmarin . The market this morning winds its way through the village streets. If you wish you can visit the interestingly different Chateau here. At the end of the morning, your day continues on to visit the lovely villages of Roussillon and Gordes plus the picturesque Abbaye de Senanque in its peaceful valley setting flanked by lavender fields.

The excursion departs at 9.00 a.m. and returns at 19.15
Depart this morning after breakfast.

 

 

Our 5 night stay includes one half day and two full day excursions as described on the itinerary - St. Rémy and Les Baux, Lourmarin and the perched villages of the Luberon, Cassis and the Calanques including a boat trip.

The included excursions are by small coach or comfortable mini bus for 8 people. All are escorted by an English speaking driver/guide who collects you from and returns you to your hotel.

However there is a wide choice of excursion options to choose from which vary according to the time of

year. Details of the most popular are listed below. You may choose to substitute our included excursions for others or indeed add extra excursions. Please note, some excursions may incur a supplement to the holiday price. If we cannot offer your chosen excursions we will suggest alternatives and advise of any supplement which may be required.

We can also arrange private excursions by taxi if you have a particular place you wish to visit which is not included in the excursion options below. Just ask us for details.

Marseillle Marseille Vieux Port

A half day tour visiting this fascinating 'city on the sea'. The vibrant Vieux Port , the largest pleasure yacht harbour in Europe . Your trip will include Le Panier district, the oldest part of Marseille, the coast road, La Corniche with its great views of the open sea to the Isles Frioul and the Chateau d'If and the picturesque Vallon des Auffes.

St. Remy and Les Baux Les Baux

A whole day tour visiting the charming old market town of St. Remy and its provencal market and the medieval fortress village of Les Baux perched high in the Alpilles mountains with a view from the Citadel right across to the Camargue and Mediterranean beyond.

Cassis Cassis

This half day tour visits the fjord like structures of the calanques for which this rocky coastline is famous on a boat trip from the picturesque fishing village of Cassis . Here the little harbour is surrounded with pastel coloured houses and restaurants.

Camargue Camargue

A half day tour for an introduction to this fascinatingly different part of Provence with its unique culture and traditions. The tour includes a visit to St. Maries de la Mere with free time on the beach and the Ornithological Park where you can see the famous pink flamingos in their natural setting.

Perched Villages Roussillon

A whole day visiting the beautiful perched villages of the Parc Naturel du Luberon - all distinctively different and each offering a magnificent vista across the valley. You will visit stunning Gordes, picturesque Roussillon and atmospheric Oppède le Vieux nestling right into the Luberon mountain side.

Atelier Cézanne and Mont St. Victoire Cezanne Atelier

A half day tour visiting Cézanne's workshop, still full of the painter's presence then out into the countryside and the fascinating mountain of St . Victoire, the subject of so many of Cézanne's paintings.

Lavender Valensole

Available during the months of June and July lavender excursions visiting either the stunning Plateau de Valensole, with its views of the distant southern Alps, or the tranquil Plateau de Sault nestling beneath the slopes of Mont Ventoux.

The holiday described has been planned with hotel accommodation in the Hotel Cézanne, a comfortable 4* hotel right in the heart of Aix and ideally placed to explore the city with all the major sights just a short walk away. The hotel does not have a restaurant but there is a wide choice of restaurants and cafés nearby and we will include our recommendations in your Route Book. Accommodation is in a twin or double room with private facilities.

The final choice of hotel for your holiday is determined by availability according to your holiday dates. If we cannot secure accommodation in the Hotel Cézanne, we will advise you immediately and suggest an alternative, and advise any supplement which may be required. There are several good hotels in Aix all of which we have personally selected.
